Sous Chef – Hotel Northampton

The Hotel Northampton is a vibrant hotel with two restaurants known for our culinary excellence. Our team thrives in a fast-paced environment where creativity and collaboration are valued. We are currently seeking a passionate and skilled Sous Chef to join our culinary team.

As a Sous Chef, you will play a key leadership role in our kitchen operations. You will work closely with the Executive Chef and kitchen management team to ensure the consistent preparation of high-quality dishes while maintaining efficiency and organization. The ideal candidate is experienced, detail-oriented, and capable of leading a team in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Executive Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations and staff supervision.

  • Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes and standards.

  • Ensure all dishes meet quality, consistency, and presentation standards.

  • Supervise and support line cooks and prep staff during service.

  • Help train and mentor kitchen staff to improve skills and performance.

  • Monitor food quality and kitchen procedures during preparation and service.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.

  • Assist with scheduling, inventory management, and ordering supplies.

  • Support menu planning and contribute ideas for new dishes and seasonal offerings.

  • Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and rotation.

  • Step in to lead the kitchen in the absence of the Executive Chef.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by kitchen management.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef, Lead Cook, or experienced Line Cook with supervisory responsibilities.

  • Culinary degree or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, ingredients, and kitchen operations.

  • Leadership experience in a professional kitchen preferred.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
